I broke them out into, count ‘em, five blogs because I apparently have multiple personalities. But now people can find what they want (as can I!) and when I am writing something I know exactly where it is going to land (which blog)."
Might I add to this that another problem with no categories is that this is where your best key phrases should live on your blog. That really helps you get more SE hits.
Long live categories - take a look at yours. Are they keyword rich?

Good points!
Any suggestions on how to set good categories?
Oh, and I have 4 personalities online… of the real 19!

Suzanne, I feel for Laura too
I started out blogging with Blogger, but due to frustrations in “un-categorization” (and having to wade in code to quasi-fix this), slow publishing times, and lack of consistent branding with my sites, I dumped it for Wordpress - and haven’t looked back since.
With WP, its free (open-source), quick installs, fantastic categorization and sub-categorization, tons of plugins, strong user and developer community, super flexible and feature-rich!
I’ve stopped building traditional html sites - all my sites are now powered by the Wordpress blog platform.
3 cheers for categorization - hip hip…hooray!
Suzanne, you definitely have been in my head this week. Checking out my categories was next on my list of things to do! Is there a cure for the reverse learning curve?!
; )

This is why we recommend that professionals use Typepad for their blog. A lot more flexibility and more features to optimize your blog.
OK, yeah, yeah, yeah blogger sucks. But give me a solution people! How do I move my existing blog from Blogger to something else (type pad?) without losing 1) my posts and 2) the existing listings on Google that point to my Blogger blog?
I too started with blogger and am surprised that you have to know more about “computer” stuff than I want to know. But, when I need a little inspiration I take a peek over at Wayne and his excellent blog at http://www.blogbusinessworld.blogspot.com
he obviously know much more than I about how to use blogger!
In response to Camadre Nacita’s comment, you can export your Blogger blog posts and then import them to Typepad. We’ve done it for other professionals. Also, you don’t want to delete your Blogger blog and lose those inbound links. You do want to make your last post a redirect to your new blog so people know where to find the new stuff.
I don’t agree. I can use Blogger very well for my purposes, links and everything works just the way I want. And there are plenty of freedom if you know the basic html and even without it (like I am now just learning the very basics) you can have great blogs.
I jsut had my “Blogger sucks” experience too.
I launched CONNECT LEFT last Fall and before I knew it, I had 25,000 monthly readers, 2 dozen ad relationships and I was quoted by mainstream bloggers.
One day, virtually overnight, Blogger, in their infinite wisdom, launched a “robot,” (yeah, I know it sounds like Sci-Fi) that ID’d my blog as a “Spam blog.” This designation meant each time I tried to post a thread to my own blog, I was required to go through word verification.
Long story short, I quickly realized Blogger has no interest in resolving email requests from bloggers who need help — as I did, and after 30 emails to them in 2 weeks, asking they unlock the “Spam blog” designation, I had enough and joined the thousands of people who say Blogger sucks.
I moved my entire blog (all 800+ threads) to WordPress, renamed it From the Left, and never looked back.
Blogger has a large and growing number of netizens who truly loathe them and with good reason.
For what it’s worth, if you don’t like Blogger, give WordPress a try.
Feel free to email me of you have any questions.
Peace,
Thought you might be intersted in this blog post about Google deleting its own blog!
