Today I was talking to Virtual Assisting expert Stacy Brice who’s way into blogs … and I learned something cool. Stacy captures the names of those who come to her blog and want to be informed when she sends out posts via email. While this may fly in the face of the current RSS craze, it’s an interesting ‘bridge-gap’ position to take for those whose readers aren’t really all that keen on the RSS thing yet. It’s a comforting extra which also helps the blog owner build a list. According to sources, Bloglet, software that also does this, has a glitch which renders its broadcasts useless if one of the addresses on said list doesn’t work. That’s baaaaadddd. Very, very bad. So Bloglet then becomes quite unreliable. Stacy likes Constant Contact for form creation and list management on her blog. I’m inclined to the the same with my own system, 1shoppingcart.com. I’ll be looking into that next week.
For now, I’m off to speak to the Publisher’s Marketing Association tomorrow in NYC about building platform. That’s going to be inspiring - and a chance for me to learn even more about what kind of platform publishers are looking for when they evaluate new authors. I’ll come back armed with more info, and may even post from the road!
BTW, I also made a momentous decision last week: I’m going to start coaching 1-on-1 with this platform work. I really feel guided to do this, and have been having some very powerful sessions with my Platform Push Coaching group clients. Yay team! More to come on that….
Have a glorious week, Suzanne

I was disappointed, Suzanne, to not find a Bloglet subscription form on your blog. I would love to be able to get a little notice in my inbox whenever you post, because I love your writing, and would love to know when I can read new posts! I tried an RSS feed, but now rely solely on Bloglet. I do not find them unreliable. How can I know when you are posting?
I have not had the problem you describe with Bloglet. I find that it goes “offline” when Typepad does maintainance, not due to bad addresses. My list grows everyday with Bloglet. The problem with using a form through 1Shoppingcart (I tried this first) is that you have to manually send out the email reminders. Bloglet is automatic and sends out the following morning after you post. As long as you have your own address signed up to Bloglet you know if you need to reset it when it goes offline. Like I said, this hasn’t been a problem for me in the 9 months I’ve been using Bloglet.
How exciting and comforting to see you,the great Suzanne promoting blogging. I only just started in the last month, now have 3 of them one for my husbands driftwood. But I must admit I dragged my feet for a long time thinking this was just another waste of my time. I see that all forms of business big and small are now using blogging.
How do I get a bloglet subscription form on my blog? ANy tips on how to drive people to the blogs?
Anyone out there besides Suzanne who wants to help me out here is very welcome.
Congratulations Suzanne on moving yourself and your business forward into a new era of marketing.
love,
Barb
Synchronicity…..one of my favorite kinds of interaction with the Cosmos, and I was starting to believe it would never happen for me again. (Don’t ask!)
Anyway, this morning I was kind of idly thinking about a blog. Later, I downloaded a toolbar from a site I frequent, which has RSS feeds, something I had never heard of before. This posting from you, Suzanne, has been sitting in my email inbox for several days, but - due to Some Kind of Trouble - I have not been able to access it. But, today……TODAY, I was finally able to open up the posting from you, and lo! and behold! there is “blog” and “RSS feed”……
Well, I no longer question the occurrence of synchronicity in my life (I wasn’t SERiously giving up on it, just doubting….), and I feel compelled to thank you for all that you are doing.
I will start up my own blog soon, and would like to link up to yours. Will get back to you………Shala
I had tried Bloglet, because the principle had seemed ideal, but found that I was not always getting their emails. I now have my blog set up to send posts automatically to a list I maintain at Google Groups. This will work with any list manager that accepts email postings (and blog software that sends them). With Google Groups setup, subscribers can then choose whether they wish to receive posts in real time, as daily digests and more options.
I love blogs. I can’t get enough of them but I found my problem was not remembering to check them, and some people only post every week or so. I recently started using Modzilla Thunderbird as my email client and can now get the blogs downloaded into my inbox. I no longer have to go to all those bookmarked sites, and they are there to persue when I have time.
By the way…I just added yours! =)
